Post 225: abstract, Kandinsky, emotional power, cedar waxwings, palmetto berries, South, poem, painting

by Carol Bass

WREN'S CALL

from Kandinsky’s thoughts….”allowing the viewer a freedom of imagination, interpretation, and emotional response that is not based on the literal…..abstract works can appeal directly to the artist’s and viewer’s “internal element”, expressing spiritual values…

ON THE SIDE OF A MAINE MOUNTAIN

we met
and surprised each other
like all first loves
the wonder of that first glance

a few sprinkled over the decades
and then, for weeks now
flying clouds of lemon yellow stripes
red droplets
rakish bandit masks
subdued crests
devouring palmetto berries
feeding waxwings
feeding our souls
