POST 195: evening on the beach

by Carol Bass

PART OF A GREY VELVET WEAVE

a smooth life
rolling around in the sand
sans pressure
a feather
a whisper
wind and water
ruffling waves

during dusk
the family on the next beach
are in heaven
but you see them

their small boy
flying a kite
running through rusted sea oats
jumping from his homemade hill
into a liquid edge

the dog
wanders with you
also dreaming

everything is soft
rolling thunder
raindrops

floating down a backroad
through twirling oaks
six old men laugh together
playing cards
before they dress for church
to talk to god
