POST 169: Ferns, garden, Day lilies, hostas, South Carolina, Maine

by Carol Bass

Bedlam and Surrender in the Garden

Help!
The ferns are marching toward the sturdy hostas
erotic purple shoots of spring
sensuous friends from many seasons

they’re strangling those leathery furls

walkers-by
desire their striking backdrop
of spring green lace
asking which nursery?
they yearn and must own
a touch of primal beauty
in their own well landscaped lawns

devouring
the day lilies
powers of parade
chomping many years of nurturing

LITTLE WINE CUP
FRESH MORNING BUTTER
CHARTREUSE DOUBLE DREAM
AFRICAN BERRY RED
CINDERELLA’S KISS

Now enough
I want peace
I’m offering full surrender
no more terminating
tender root systems
yanking the babies
out of earth’s moist uterus
just as new fiddleheads see the light

grabbing them as they smother
Champagne Iris
Astilbe
tall lavender Allium balls
I relinquish my garden back
to earth’s natural vibrations

no more murder for me
wildness wins
blanket the land with emerald featherness
everything is yours
