POST 166: Blue Butterfly, watermelon, Nicaragua, South Carolina, Maine, horses, rain, buds

by Carol Bass

In the emerald world outside
of wetness and buds
I have entered the drops of all water
from the heavens
and become the rain

I am every bud that drinks in the moisture
My embryonic spirit
swells with beauty from all the gods

I am the blue butterfly of Nicaragua
and I am inside the South Carolina watermelon
swallowing the seeds

I am the Black Cowboy
and part of the festival
I am the Chocolate Woman as she sings

and the moose on the island

My blood is the blood of all slaughtered horses
pouring out as they fall
my pain for injustice suffocating

But I wait for the sun
and am everything
