POST 143: THIRD DRAFT, Faith, Sensuousness, India, Poetry, Painting, South Carolina, Maine

by Carol Bass

THE COWS ARE DANCING

on Main Street in Arivaca
the people too
old hippies in the coffee shop
Let’s stay here and live in the sun
a poem a day maybe

Back home someone said they moved to Searsport
with the chickens in town

In the Singhbhum district of Jharkhand
in verdant hills and forests
the archaic tribes celebrate their harvest
with dancing and freeing themselves
of all evil things

For 2 days they dance
and their playing children
can speak bad words

just these 2 days
Get it out
Get it over with

Who is really more civilized
with holding the heart?
