POST 138: SUN, Jesus Painting, sand spurs, neighbors, Biking, South Carolina, Maine, poem, painting

by Carol Bass

SUNRISE on VELVET

When you look at the background behind Jesus’ head
you would not believe
Leaning more toward pink than orange
massive sphere
diffused glowing
through low clouds

We biked around
through seamless air
on the inside of you
and the outside

Hello to Meg,
de-cluttering her house
and two small kite-flying boys
a neighbor taking out the rubbish
an old couple hand and hand,
a few tiny raindrops
and Woody not even barking

Only a few sand-spurs
in his paws
which were OK
’cause we stopped
to breathe and gaze
