POST 124: Birthday, Geetchie Boy Pumpkin Soup, Cornbread, art, poem

by Carol Bass

DANCING COOKING PUMPKIN SOUP

Sisters waltzing from sink to oven
old green pottery bowls
filled with electric orange chunks of
pumpkin meat
being roasted

an orange you want to squeeze
between your fingers
rub it on your elbows
spread it around your life

Unearthly explosive
joy and kissing
and sun color orange

Flavored with animal salty tears
lady songs and laughter shrieks
powdered shadows of chipotle chile

A supper feast
for all my loves
from the black dirt
by the sea
