POST 117: Love of the World, wrens, ocean waves, poem, Painting, courage

by Carol Bass

THE WREN UNDER THE BEACH HOUSE

Where I was painting, being
cautious and tentative, ungutsy
Who was I?

Uncomfortable and jittery
at the process of living
But not really

He flew right past me
only a tiny, twittering package
dropping a dreaded black spot
on my morning’s work

poking fun
snickering at my gravity
wanting me to follow him out
to play in the gale force winds

that were whipping and foaming up
ferocious wave batter
before slapping them on the sand

Fly and sing with me
on this breath
I’ll show you how
