POST 113: The Sea Today, prayer, poem, laughter, art, paint

by Carol Bass

TEN THOUSAND ELEPHANTS

Ten thousand elephants
asleep in the sand in front
of my dancing eyes
a silvery blanket

draped over
and they’re breathing
to different tunes

heaving and then
one gets pushed out
collapsing with a crash

When all are awake
and gone
the sea returns
with its wet
arms around the sparkling sun.
