Today’s Poem

MAKE A NOTE

Riding my bike in the stillness of dawn today
I said a prayer for RUBY
her birthday today
and what should I give her
but this prayer

one single golden birch leaf
way up high
leaving its branch
the only thing stirring
that I could see
floating down
halfway to death
yet stopped mid tree
by a neighboring pine needle bowl
a nest where she rested
and will linger
longer
not wanting to leave
til cold winds
blow a beginning
and final launch
for the next great adventure
