POST 99: The Fox, The Bluejay and Supper, Carol Bass painting/poem, Maine

by Carol Bass

THE BLUEJAY and THE FOX

detail, unfinished 60″ x 60″

SUPPER
Among yellow smudges
of rampant bittersweet
twisted in and around
pines and red oak
the dusk is waiting for night
breathing in light
breathing out shadows
Plays I never dreamed
are previewing.
While I was in Paris
this wild island
kept living.
The fox running
across the dirt road
grey muzzle clinched with warm blue jay
The music plays on everywhere
